First, it’s important to relax and release tension from the body before starting any routine. Make sure that all points are gently touched and not too hard. It is also to be mindful of your while tapping, as this will help facilitate flow of energy throughout your body., take your time and give yourself permission to let go of anything that no longer serves you during the process.

Can you explain what EFT tapping is?

EFT tapping, also known as emotional freedom technique or psychological acupressure, is an alternative treatment that involves tapping on specific points of the body to create a balance in the energy system. It’s believed that a disruption in energy is the cause of negative emotions and pain. While still being researched, EFT tapping has been used to treat anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Can you explain how EFT tapping works?

EFT tapping is similar to acupuncture as it targets the energy hot spots or meridian points. This helps restore balance to the body’s energy flow and alleviate any symptoms caused by negative experiences or emotions. Meridian points, based on Chinese medicine, are areas where energy flows through the body to maintain health. Any imbalance in these pathways can lead to sickness or disease.

Acupuncture involves needle application on energy points while EFT involves fingertip tapping on the same points. Advocates claim that tapping helps to access the body’s energy and communicate with the part of the brain responsible for dealing with stress. EFT tapping on the meridian points can allegedly reduce the negative emotions or stress associated with an issue, returning balance to the body’s energy.

To perform EFT tapping, you need to follow five steps. You can repeat these steps if you have multiple issues or fears to address. The first step is to identify the problem, fear, or issue that you want to address. This will be the main focus while you tap. It is recommended to focus on one problem at a time to achieve better results.

To begin with EFT, you should test the level of intensity for your problem area on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 represents the highest level of difficulty. This scale measures the emotional or physical pain you feel related to your issue. Setting a benchmark helps you track your progress by comparing your initial intensity level to the level after completing a full EFT sequence. For example, if your initial intensity was 10 and after tapping it decreased to 5, then you achieved a 50% improvement.

Before beginning tapping, it’s important to create a statement that clearly states the issue you’re trying to address. This statement should have two main objectives: acknowledging the problem and accepting yourself despite it. The standard format for this statement is “Even though I have this [fear or problem], I deeply and completely accept myself.”

To effectively tackle your problem, ensure that you personalize your message to address how it makes you feel. For instance, instead of saying “Even though someone else is sick, I deeply and completely accept myself,” address your emotions by saying “Even though I feel sad that a loved one is sick, I deeply and completely accept myself.”

The EFT tapping sequence involves tapping methodically on nine specific meridian points. Although there are 12 major meridians, EFT primarily focuses on these nine: the side of the hand (also known as the “karate chop”), the top of the head, the eyebrow, the side of the eye, and under the eye. Each of these points corresponds to a specific internal organ, such as the small intestine, bladder, gallbladder, and stomach.

To begin tapping, first tap the side of your hand and recite your setup phrase three times. Then, tap the governing vessel point under the nose, the central vessel point on the chin, the kidney meridian point at the beginning of the collarbone, and the spleen meridian point under the arm. Tap each point seven times, moving down the body in this order.

  • eyebrow
  • side of the eye
  • under the eye
  • under the nose
  • chin
  • the collarbone
  • under the arm

To complete the sequence, tap the top of your head after tapping the underarm point. As you tap the ascending points, use a reminder phrase to stay focused on your problem area. For example, if your setup phrase is “Even though I’m sad my mother is sick, I deeply and completely accept myself,” your reminder phrase can be “The sadness I feel that my mother is sick.” Recite this phrase at each tapping point and repeat the sequence two or three times.

After you finish your exercises, assess your intensity level on a scale of 0 to 10. Compare this result with your initial intensity level. If you did not reach 0, repeat the process until you do.

Is EFT tapping an effective treatment?

Based on a 2013 study, EFT tapping has been shown to effectively reduce psychological stress in war veterans with PTSD. More than half of the test group no longer met the criteria for PTSD after undergoing EFT coaching sessions. Additionally, there are anecdotal reports of success using EFT tapping to treat anxiety.

Although there have been some success stories, the effectiveness of this therapy on other disorders and illnesses is still under investigation. It is important to continue seeking out traditional treatment options. If you do decide to pursue this alternative therapy, make sure to consult with your doctor first to minimize the risk of injury or worsening symptoms.

EFT tapping is a type of alternative therapy that uses acupressure to restore balance to the body’s disrupted energy. It has been authorized as a treatment for war veterans with PTSD and has shown some benefits in treating anxiety, depression, physical pain, and insomnia.

Overall, Emotional Freedom Technique is an increasingly popular form of therapy that has a range of potential benefits for mental health and physical well-being. With its focus on releasing negative emotions and creating new pathways for healing, this therapeutic technique can help those suffering from emotional distress or chronic physical pain reclaim their power and take charge of their health.
